Description:
Biography: Born in Retteg, Hungary in 1867 and died in New York in 1943. He was both a painter and graphic artist. He studied in Budapest with Master Gyula Bencur, then with Simon Hollosy in Private School in Munich and later at the Julian Academy in Paris. He joined the artist’s colony at Nagybanya and worked in the United States between 1910 to 1925, where his works were collected by many dignitaries. He painted mostly genre scenes, nudes and portraits, but designed posters and was an excellent caricaturist as well. His works were often exhibited in Europe (London, Milan, Venice, Turin, Dusseldorf, Warsaw, St. Petersburg) and throughout America. He won many awards, including Gold medals at the San Francisco Exposition and Budapest juried competitions. His works entitled “Jewelry,” “The Atelier,” “Intimacy,” and “The Fever of Temptation,” are part of the permanent collection of the Hungarian National Gallery.
