Biography: Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1900 and died there in 1987. He was the son of painter Geza Udvary and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest under Masters Ferenc Helbing, Viktor Olgyai, Ignatius Ujvary, Ede Ballo and his father Geza. From 1918 onwards, he exhibited regularly and participated often at the Art Hall and National Salon’s art exhibitions. In 1922 he received the Max Bruck and Bela Pall Prizes, in 1926 the Benczúr Group’s Youth Award, in 1934 the Charles Barta Prize, the Szilard Rökk Award and the MÉMOSZ Prize. In 1927 he was awarded a scholarship to France and thereafter studied in Italy and Austria. His paintings and graphics reflect a post-impressionist style with exacting attention to detail and composition, which are particulary evident in his colorful landscapes, interiors and figurative works. His paintings are found in the Hungarian National Gallery’s permanent collection.
