Biography: Born in Iglo, Hungary in 1870 and died in Salzburg, Austria in 1929. He was a painter, graphic artist and literary philologist. His artwork received early attention and he studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts with Masters Edward von Lichtenfels and William Unger. He subsequently founded a graphic school in Munich in 1900 and in 1906 became the senior master in the graphic department of the Budapest School of Sample Drawing. In 1906, his watercolor of a landscape won the Esterhazy Prize and in 1909 he received the Art Society Award. He was a teacher and major pioneer of Hungarian graphic reproduction, and founder of the Hungarian Graphic Designers Association. Between 1921-1929, he was the first President of the Hungarian Association of Artist Engravers. Upon his death in 1929 there was a major commemorative exhibition of his works in the Art Hall (Mucsarnok). Many of his works are in the permanent collection of the Hungarian National Gallery.
