Biography: Born in Pusztalsocikola, Hungary in 1864 and died in Budapest in 1942. He was a painter, writer and art critic. Without formal academic studies, he began to paint landscapes, and achieved early success with his “Forest at Dusk” oil painting. In 1886 he started exhibiting his works at the Mucsarnok (Art Hall) and in1893 became an art critic for the Pesti Herald. In 1900 he won the Silver Medal at the Paris Exposition Universalle and in 1909 he won the Gold Medal at the Earl's Court exhibition in London. Many of his works were acquired thereafter for the Venice Museum’s permanent modern art collection. In 1906 the first of his major retrospective exhibitions took place at the Kalman Konyves Salon in Budapest, followed in 1911 and 1921 with retrospectives at the National Salon and in 1928 in the Art Hall. “The Speeding Storm” and other important paintings of his are displayed in the Hungarian Museum of Fine Arts. His oil painting “Mill in the Forest” is owned and displayed in the Budapest Municipality’s City Hall. In1902 he published the memoirs of Hungarian Master Miklos Barabas.
